Father’s Day in Federal Prison

This is my first Father’s Day in prison. Special days like this cause Me to reflect on how I enjoyed these days in the past. For a number of years, my family did the same thing on father’s Day. We loaded the boat, headed across the lake, and went to a little golf course on Harsen’s Island. The four of us would hack our way around the golf course laughing, and at times, agonizing, over some poor golf shots. It was a day that our whole family spent 6-7 hours together without cell phones, television or video games. At the time, I did not realize how very special those days really were. Now, with plenty of time to reflect upon them, I cherish the memories.

This Father’s Day the best I can hope for is a 15 minute telephone call with my son. I plan to talk about our past Father’s days and remind him of some of the fun we had. There was this one particular father’s day when my son was about 9. We ran into two NHL Hockey players (the Hatcher Brothers) from Michigan who had just won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars. They each had a custom made Stanley Cup golf bag that my hockey playing boys truly admired. On the boat ride home, all they could talk about was meeting the Hatcher Brothers and their golf bags.

I look forward to a future Father’s day when I can be with my son again. We can share some laughs and maybe create some new Father’s Day memories.

Enjoy your Father’s Day.
