Tan is the New Orange?

First a few admin items:

  1. It appears that only two of my first four blog posts were emailed out to everyone. If you want to see all of them, please go to http://etikall.wpengine.com/david-applegate and scroll down!
  2. A shout out to the four people who have sent me books so far. Thanks Holly Bennett, Sharron Walker, Gala Struthers and Lori Wishard! And my mom (the book monitor) tells me she has 16 more queued up! I am overwhelmed!
  3. Thanks to everyone who has sent letters and cards! I think there has only been one day so far when I did not get something at mail call! Makes my day!

And now on to tonight’s post:

Good thing I am not a clothes horse! Clothing selections here are quite limited. This is not Nordstrom!

Pants come in the following colors: tan.

You get four pair (one of which is new) and they all have elastic waistbands (good practice for 20 years from now!) 🙂

Jacket colors: tan (again) – although the jacket is pretty nice and warm

Not everything is tan. There are the white T-shirts and socks! From the commissary, you can buy thermal tops (tan and grey!) and sweats and shorts (grey).

In fact, if you come to visit me, do not wear tan, white or grey! They will not let you in. They have to be able to tell the visitors from the inmates (and some of you could definitely pass for inmates – haha).

As for shoes, I will be ordering a new pair of tennies on the 1st of the month. The money comes out of my monthly commissary allotment (which is $320) and I ran through my first month’s allotment earlier this week. We get to shop in the commissary once per week. I hope my current used pair – which I am SO grateful for – makes it through until the end of Feb. since it takes about 4 weeks for the shoes to arrive.

One of my philosophies is to embrace camp life and not try to recreate life on the “outside” (that is what us inmates call the real world). So for the first time in my life I have grown a beard! OK you can pick yourself up off the floor now. As I suspected, it is almost entirely grey (which blends in with my sweatshirt and pants) but I hate shaving with a blade so why not???

Although I no longer have access to Neutrogena and Aveeno skin care products, I was happy to see that Dove and Neutrogena soars are available in the commissary. And nothing better than Jergens lotion to stay moisturized in the dry climate here.

So that is the fashion news from Taft. I am still adjusting well – and sleeping well (now that I am way in the back). My head is still in a good place and I make the best of every day – one day at a time. Thanks for following!

David
