Uplifting Message
I am fortunate that people continue to write to me in prison. Each letter lifts my spirits and lets me know that I have not been forgotten. Being forgotten is a primary fear shared by many prisoners. A friend of mine (Sue) sent me some uplifting messages that I want to share with you. Although I find them particularly relevant to my current circumstances, I believe they are appropriate for anyone who has experienced adversity.
- When things are going well your friends know you. When things are not going well, You know your friends.- unknown
- Tough times never last, tough people do. -Robert H. Schuler
- I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.-Jewish Proverb
- If you do not like something change it; If your cannot change it, change the way you think about it.-Mary Engelbreit
- Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I will show you someone who has overcome adversity.- Lou Holtz
- Adversity is a fact of life. It cannot be controlled. What we can control is how we respond to it.-unknown
- Prosperity makes friends, adversity tries them.- Publillus Syrus
- One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles possess the only strength which can overcome adversity.-Albert Schweitzer
- The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them.-unknown
I hope you find something you can relate too.
Ken Flaska
Hi Mr. Flaska,
I am not sure if this “Sue” is my mom, but I am so glad to read about all of the connections you have maintained while in prison.
Please stay tuned for a letter or e-mail from me. I have been thinking about you a lot lately, especially since my wedding is only 3 weeks away! I wish you could celebrate with us, but we will absolutely make up for lost time when you’re back in the Sunshine State!
