David Applegate

My name is David Applegate. I am 59 and am a native Californian currently residing in Palm Springs with my husband and partner of 34 years. I served 34 months at the federal prison camps at Taft, CA and Sheridan, OR and was released on November 28, 2017. I am now on supervised release. I had a very successful career in sales and marketing in several medical device categories. While running a business unit at a growing mid-sized public company, I – along with several others – succumbed to the pressure of meeting Wall Street expectations and engaged in channel stuffing. It seemed to be manageable and fairly innocuous in the beginning but it was a slippery slope that resulted in a large restatement of revenue and earnings. I acknowledge my role in the conspiracy and I take full responsibility for my actions and the harm they caused others. Although difficult, going to prison was the best possible thing that could have happened to me. I have changed my priorities, identified my irrational thinking errors and developed tools to recognize them when they occur. I hope what I have learned – and will learn – will be helpful to others.

Farewell Robyn October 29, 2015 Our dear friend Robyn Lazear passed away this past Sunday after a 10 year battle with cancer. Kenny and I met Robyn almost 20 years ago. Meeting and getting to know Robyn is a great example of why I try my best never to have regrets...

A Melancholy Sunday

It's an overcast Sunday morning and I didn't wake up until 8 a.m.; even though I went to bed at 9:15 last night. I do always seem to be extra tired after having a visit. Yesterday was with my brother Paul, my sister-in-law Nicole and my nephew Aaron. Aaron usually has...

Keeping Busy

October 7, 2015 Coming up on nine months here at the Taft Prison Camp. It feels like I have been here a very long time and yet the time also seems to have gone by fairly quickly. I know that seems like a contradiction but that's how it feels to me! It's not like I'm...

Great Birthday!

September 20, 2015 Quoting Peewee Herman from his first TV special, "I'm the luckiest boy in the world!" No, I didn't get to fly today but it sure felt like I was walking on air! I was called to visitation at 8:15 this morning and when I walked through the door, the...

Growth Means Change

A lot of people have told me that I am being too hard on myself and more people may think that after I wrote about the laundry list of changes I need – and want – to make in my last post. Change is hard but it is necessary in order to grow spiritually. Still, there...

Please Support Prison Reform!!!!

Congress returns today from it's summer recess. Given the current atmosphere on Capitol Hill and the past history of being "tough on crime," it is absolutely amazing to me that there looks to be a consensus on passing significant prison reform by year end. I don't...
