PRISON INFO./ADVICE;-__I was surprised to see that the kiosk for Jpay was quickly fixed. It's only been four days and now the machine is back up and running, enabling us to upload and download our emails once again. The repair man that came to fix the machine said that it was more than likely a result of porters cleaning the keyboard with chemicals, getting the electronics wet and causing them to short out and burn up. Now there's big signs taped all around the kiosk, stating not to clean the machine with chemicals, dry wipe only and not to have any food or drink around the machine. This makes me think a lot about all the nasty germs and bacteria that will be accumulating on the machine without the use of chemicals. This is something that was already an issue for my celly, Kurt and I. The first thing we always make sure to do is go directly to our cell and wash our hands vigorously after using the kiosk, touching nothing else on the way. This is a habit we practice with everything we touch in prison, doing our best to avoid door handles, railings, always washing our hands when returning to the cell after chow, the weight room, the yard, etc. Prison is a petri dish for diseases, germs, harmful bacteria; staph infections are very common in prison. Practicing good hygiene, always conscious of these facts are an important part of surviving in prison.
