On this Thanksgiving day we all have a lot to be thankful for.  Some may say that my current situation does not warrant me being thankful.  Well rest assured that every second of our lives are a reason to give thanks.  I celebrated Thanksgiving this year away from my family for the first time in 50 years.  Although, physically, I was not with my family and friends the warmth of the many loving memories that we have shared through the years were enough to sustain me.  I was blessed with a delicious Carswell meal consisting of tender turkey, ham, dressing, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole (that was delicious), collard greens, peach cobbler and yeast rolls.  The only problem was that there were no late night snacking like we always do at home.  I have learned to recall past memories of great times and to have hope for a great future! These two actions keep me content and positive every day.  When I read my bible and meditate daily I am reminded that everything has a season.  Life, death, prosperity, lack, health, sickness, positivity and negativity.  All situations are temporary, as night and day.  Even my stay at carswell is temporary.  For that I am truly thankful.  If you are in the free world as us prisoners call it please reflect if you are not actively practicing on the following:

  1. Enjoy everyday as if it is your last.
  2. Enjoy your family as though there is no other day but today.
  3. Prioritize your life. Work and the accumulation of wealth is fleeting.
  4. Spend quality time with your loved ones both family and friends.
  5. Take NOTHING for granted.
  6. Always save for a rainy day and the weather will invariably change.
  7. Take care of your health. You only have one body and it HAS to last you a lifetime.
  8. Create wonderful lasting memories because they will carry you over your darkest hours.
  9. Appreciate each day that you feel good because there will be some days when your health will be rocky.
  10. Always enjoy the holidays its a wonderful opportunity to create the memories you need to sustain you.

Happy Thanksgiving !!!
