A Visit In Federal Prison
I was up bright and early last Saturday Morning in anticipation of my first prison visit. I watched the parking lot for over an hour waiting for the white SUV that would bring one of my oldest friends to my new temporary home. I was like a child waiting for the ice cream truck. The SUV finally pulled into the parking lot and I waited for my name to be called out over the intercom. " Flaska, report to visitation".
After the mandatory strip search at the entrance to visitation, I entered the visitation room and saw the smiling faces of two dear friends (Greg and Michelle). You cannot imagine the joy that runs through your body at being able to sit down face to face with your friends and talk about everything going on in the real world. - I explained, in detail, my daily routine but I did omit some of the low points as I did not want them to worry about me. It was explained to me prior to entering prison that you never complain to your family or friends about the true conditions of prison. Why would you? They cannot do anything about it and you only cause them more concern.
After 2 and 1/2 hours of lively conversation, it was time for them to leave.(it was the fastest 2 and 1/2 hours I have spent in prison). At first, I was quite sad. However, my mood did change after the post visitation strip search as I was walking back to my unit. The visit was like a battery recharge for me. I have new hope and energy to face the daily grind of prison life.
I look forward to receiving my next visitor!
