My Week In Jesup Prison
July is almost here. Another month down. A very important event for a prisoner.
Last week was much like any other week in prison. It is very hot down here (high 90's).The recreation yard has been closed most days because the heat index is in excess of 103 degrees. Hence, we have had very little exercise time.
I did catch the last half of a funny movie, "TED". I rarely go into the Television room (the most dangerous place in prison) but it was nearly empty so I took a chance. This silly movie has a special place in my heart. One of the last photos we received from our oldest son before his death was a picture of a TED bear he gave to his girlfriend. The photo depicted the TED bear sitting in the backseat of a car with his seat belt on.
Church this week did prove to be eventful. We have a prison choir that is actually very good. The Pastor was quite upset over the Supreme Court ruling in favor of gay marriage and let everyone in the chapel know how He felt. He told us that a group of local ministers were banding together and refusing to sign marriage certificates in protest of the ruling. People can still have a ceremonial church service but will have to have a second civil service to make their union binding in the eyes of the law. Religion and politics do not mix well in prison or anywhere else!
I did enter the "Biggest Loser" prison weight loss contest last Monday. We weighed in and had our body fat measured. I do not want to lose any weight but I would like to lower my body fat level. This is hard to do on the prison meal plan which is filled with high starch/high Carbohydrate food. Time to buy some more mackerel packets at the commissary. They do not taste very good but they do have 26 grams of protein.
Other than that, I am simply getting by behind the fence in Jesup.
