Be The Person Your Dog Thinks You Are.

I read a short blurb in the paper last week about being a "good" person. The article suggested that to be good you should " be the person your dog thinks you are". This really made Me think. In my adult years, I have had the privilege of owning three wonderful dogs; Freeport (Labrador Retriever), Chaser (West Highland Terrier) and Mac (Flat Coated Retriever with a little of something else).

I thought about how they might have viewed Me. I fed them. I bathed them. I took them to the vet. I hugged them. I played with them. I rolled on the floor with them. I rubbed their bellies. I bought them toys and their favorite snacks. Every single day, rain, sleet or snow, I took them to do their favorite thing - the evening walk.

I suspect that they thought I was a pretty good guy who loved them very much.

The only problem with all of this is that I probably treated my dogs better than I treated my Family, my Friends and the community as a whole. I need to change my approach. Since I will not treat my dogs any worse, I am going to have to start treating people better, i.e. the same way I  treated my dogs. (belly rub is optional). If I can do this, I will clearly have stronger relationships and live a better life.

Who does your dog think you are?
