Welcome to my world. Actual conversation I overheard while on the track in the Rec Yard last week.
Prisoner # 1; Man, that is crazy. I did not use that Meth S_ _ _! It will destroy your body. Your teeth fall out....It will burn out your lungs!
Prisoner # 2; I still have my teeth......What did you do to get high?
Prisoner # 1; I stuck with heroin, It does not tear up your body like meth.
I was dumbfounded. The first guy was advocating the benefits of heroin use over Meth use.
On to something more pleasant. One of the prisoners is producing the play "Fool" for the upcoming holiday season. It is a comedy roughly based upon Shakespeare's "Lear". I landed a part as a witch. Over 75 prisoners are participating in the play. It was fairly amazing to see all of these folks volunteer to assist with the production. Alas, my acting career begins. I will keep you posted.
The compound is abuzz about the new sentencing reform bill in the Senate. The bill would reduce the sentences of some current prisoners. I have paid little attention to proposals of this nature because the floors of congress are littered with failed proposals related to sentence reform. Call Me when the President signs the bill!
