I have started to teach a course here at Camp Fed, my course is Resume Writing & Cover Letters. I also intend to include some basics on creative writing as well. I was approached by the education dept to teach the curse and I gladly volunteered. It's an excellent opportunity for me to help my fellow inmates create an effective resume to help them secure an interview for a job. On a more selfish note it is also an excellent way for me to eat up an hour and a half of time in a constructive and productive way for the next 12 weeks. I had 13 people show up, about half of whom were serious about getting something out of the course, the other half attended to kill some time and get some credits. Whatever they want to accomplish is fine as far as I'm concerned and I told my "students" I was ready willing and able to help them if they wanted my assistance outside of the class. I rather enjoyed the class and look forward to the next 12 weeks and hopefully helping several fellow inmates have something they can build on. There are many classes going on now being taught by inmate volunteers that cover a very broad selection of disciplines, business math, starting a small business, typing, parenting, etc, so there are things that inmates can do to gain some decent entry level skills being conducted by inmates. It would be far better and more effective if the BOP actually allowed computers and real courses concentrating on rehabilitation, but that isn't the case.
