This Week in Jesup.
I am going through short bouts of euphoric recall lately as I think about all of my past holidays with my family and my friends. The holidays are tough to deal with in prison but I do seem to remember incredible details from past holidays which bring joy to my heart.
When my boys were younger, we used to spend the Christmas holidays at a small ski club located near Gaylord, Michigan.
The boys learned how to ski and snowboard there. It was a family place where you could turn your 8 year old loose with his friends and not worry about his well being. On New Years Eve each year we participated in a great family function. Each family would build a sled out of cardboard and duck tape. We would then race the cardboard sleds (entire family onboard) down the ski hill. After the race, we would sit by a large stone fireplace and watch the annual ski patrol touch parade. Fireworks would follow at midnight.
I recall great memories like this and then I wake up from my day dream and find myself sitting on the bleachers starring at the razor wire and listening to other prisoners scream and swear during their pickup basketball game. Quite a contrast!
