I was preparing for my course that I teach a little while ago and one of my students cane over to thank me for the course and the information I was sharing with my fellow inmates.  Needless to say this made me feel very good and reinforced my commitment to share some of my knowledge with my fellow inmates in the hope that I can make a little difference in their lives when they leave here.

I have also been approached over the last couple of weeks by several inmates that would like to get copies of my class notes and would like to sit down with me to discuss the program further. Naturally I have made myself available, one thing we all here is time.  I am heartened by this and feel if the BOP made a real effort to equip the inmates with some solid skills and knowledge they could use when they are done with their terms it would go a very long way in keeping them away from prison.

The fact that the BOP allows for people like me to teach a course aimed at helping inmates is very good, but there is so much more that can be done.  I know that I'm not the only one who has marketable skills that can be shared and that we do it as volunteers.  So it's not a matter of money, it's a matter of effort.  In the long run everyone in the system would benefit.
