If there is anything to learn from a prison experience, and there is certainly a lot to learn, it would be to adopt an attitude of, ok, let's take it as it comes and go with the flow. Actually, while you are a prisoner that is the only way to be because you are no longer in control of your life on a daily basis, your freedoms have been taken away and you must adhere to the rules and whims of the system. For some people this is not a challenge or a problem, some are here with that attitude and outlook and are quite happy having someone else provide the day to day decisions being made for them. Some are not, I suspect more are not than are. For myself this has been one of the hardest things to get used to, I don't think I have and I don't think I ever would. I cant imagine being here for 3, 4, 5 or more years having to deal with that. I have to try very hard on a daily basis not to let this part of the prison life not to get me down, so I create my own routing that fits in between the prison's rules and regs. There are some here that just go from day to day letting what will be to be. It is probably the best way to be to get through a lengthy sentence, I would guess it is the only way to be. Thankfully I am getting out next month, but this is still a lesson well learned and will stay with me far after I'm done with my sentence.
