Nice letter
Last week it was in the 20's at night down here which makes for some chilly phone calls home in the evening. (The prison phone bank is located outside the unit). However, When I hear my wife's voice on the other end of the phone, I do not seem to notice the cold anymore.
I was feeling a bit down the other day (a common affliction in prison) when out of the blue I received a great letter from one of my oldest Sons best friends. He told Me that He had been thinking about Me and that He read my blog on a fairly regular basis. He mentioned an old blog where I wrote about my failure as a role model to the children I knew and coached. He brought up a sailing trip we took to Harbor Springs, Michigan and how He had watched me prepare for the trip on the day of our departure. He said the lesson He learned from me on that day was about working hard to achieve your goals. He was impressed by the number of tasks I completed in a short time by being focused and intentional. Despite my poor choices, He did not forget the unintended lesson I taught him that day. If you know me, you know I was never afraid of hard work. Being willing and persistent is necessary to achieve anything of value.
I know my ability to work will determine any success I have after prison. As a result, I fight the aging process every single day through exercise and by keeping my mind active. I am looking forward to the day that I can go to a job and be productive again.
