Be The Person Your Dog Thinks You Are.
I read a short blurb in the paper last week about being a "good" person. The article suggested that to be good you should " be the person your dog thinks you are". This really made Me think. In my adult years, I have had the privilege of owning three wonderful dogs; Freeport (Labrador Retriever), Chaser (West Highland Terrier) and Mac (Flat Coated Retriever with a little of something else).
I thought about how they might have viewed Me. I fed them. I bathed them. I took them to the vet. I hugged them. I played with them. I rolled on the floor with them. I rubbed their bellies. I bought them toys and their favorite snacks. Every single day, rain, sleet or snow, I took them to do their favorite thing - the evening walk.
I suspect that they thought I was a pretty good guy who loved them very much.
The only problem with all of this is that I probably treated my dogs better than I treated my Family, my Friends and the community as a whole. I need to change my approach. Since I will not treat my dogs any worse, I am going to have to start treating people better, i.e. the same way I treated my dogs. (belly rub is optional). If I can do this, I will clearly have stronger relationships and live a better life.
Who does your dog think you are?

I remember Freeport!! Hi Ken, it’s Debi Ruggeri <3 I admit I treat my dogs better than some people, but then again, they deserve it!! I just was on FB and saw that someone had Taylor as a 'friend' and it lead me to seek you and Roxanne out. I was glad to read that you were in church, because having left the Catholic church in recent years, and going to another church, I have learned more in the 4 years there, than I did in 12 years of parochial school!! I just pray that you, Roxanne, and Conner can find some comfort in knowing that Taylor is with our Lord and that someday you will all be reunited again. The other thing I know now and try to embrace, is that forgiveness is key to our walk with God. While I don't fully understand why your in prison, and you never did anything to hurt me, I want you to know that if you are ever in the area, please look us up and we can do dinner or something (Roxanne has my number). I will keep all of you in my prayers and I will continue to follow your blog. Hugs to you, Ken XOXO
