Flashbacks From Federal Prison
Your mind tends to wander at times when you are in Federal Prison. Flashbacks to happier times come and go at various times throughout the day. I suspect the flashbacks are facilitated by the incredible amount of "idle time" that a prisoner faces each day.
Tonight, I went to the Saturday night movie to kill a couple of hours. It was a decent movie that was only 5 months post theater release. To view the movie, you bring your own plastic chair from your cube and sit in an open air pavilion with 150 other guys. It was in the high 40's so I was wearing everything I own.
After the movie, I was walking back to my unit and a song came on my radio, "Hey Jealousy" by the Gin Blossoms". I really enjoyed the band and it took me back to Christmas of 1995. That year, we took a family vacation up North to go skiing.
My oldest Son's hockey team was scheduled to play in a Christmas Tournament and we promised to drive back if the team made it to the championship Game. Sure enough, we got the call and the two of Us got up at 5:30 the next morning to drive back to Detroit for the 10:00 am championship game. We spent most of the 3 1/2 hour trip listening to the Gin Blossoms c.d. and singing along.
The Hockey Game lasted 50 minutes, My Son scored the winning goal and his team (The Bruins ) won 2-1. He was thrilled and I, of course, was the proud father. We hit McDonalds and were back on the road for the 3 1/2 hour return trip to the North Country. The return trip was once again filled with singing along to the Gin Blossoms blaring out of the C.D. player.
As I look back on that trip today, the hockey game and the goal were not the important part of that day. The best part was a Father and his Son singing and laughing on a car ride together!
A great Flashback to help Me through the day!
