Lessons For Children From Federal Prison
When you commit a crime and go to Prison you have many regrets. You also have plenty of time to reflect on those regrets. The fundamental regrets regarding your family, your friends, your former colleagues and your former clients are always present.
There is an additional regret that comes to my mind on almost a daily basis. I spent allot of time working on children's sports and related activities through the years. I truly enjoyed watching kids play sports and have a good time. I was a coach, I sat on boards and foundations for youth sports and I worked as a fund raiser for youth sports. As a result, I met a number of children over the years in these activities. I always preached honesty, integrity and fair play.
Most of the children I preached that message to are now between 18 and 27 years old. I cannot imagine what they are thinking after hearing about my situation. The word " HYPOCRITE " comes to mind?
I want them to know that I meant what I said. I also want them to know that when my back was to the wall, I made the wrong choice and now I am paying a heavy price for making that wrong choice.
The lesson they can learn from Me is to do the right thing even if it means suffering immediate adverse consequences. Doing the wrong thing only sets you up for more severe consequences down the road. I wish I had practiced what I had preached!
I almost forgot, There is another rule I preached to the kids I coached, " If you fall down, get up and try again"
This principal is clearly applicable to my current situation. I have fallen into a deep hole that I dug. You can rest assured that I am going to make the long climb out and this hole and try again.
