Today marks the beginning of my 4th week here in Camp Fed, it also marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. It was absolutely beautiful this morning out on the track, a crisp breeze blowing in from the west, the sun rising into the cloud, the geese flying above, a truly beautiful morning. I have found that my time out on the track has become very important, for a couple of reasons. First, I enjoy exercising in the early morning hours and second it seems to be the only time that I have some personal space and a measure of quiet. Being in prison with 400 men in a small and very close quarters does away with any kind of personal space and quiet. The one thing you can say about this place is that it's vibrant and alive, 24/7. it's like NYC, there's always something to do and see. There is always something going on in here, always noise, always activity, always groups talking and playing, it's the camp that never sleeps. It's extremely difficult to find a space for yourself to really think, or a space to have a few moments of undisturbed solace. Even in areas like the library or chapel there is always something going on. I totally understand it, we are 400 unique men doing what we can to pass our time in a way we find most suitable for ourselves. Naturally there is a lot going on and it is, I think, unintentional that it can be disturbing, but it is and that's just the way it is.
