Working To Retire

I read a great little story that I thought I would share with you. It comes from a book by Timothy Ferris called "The 4-Hour Work Week". A rich American businessman on a forced vacation for medical reasons in Mexico walks to the boat docks one morning and sees a fisherman with several large tuna in his boat. He asks, "How long did it take you to catch them?" "A short while" states the fisherman. "Why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" "I have enough to support my family and give a few to my friends". "But what do you do with the rest of your time?" " I sleep in, I fish a little, I relax with my wife, I play with my children and every evening I play guitar and sip a little beer with my amigos". The American replied, You need to fish more, buy a bigger boat, and expand your business until you have a fleet of fishing boats. Then, You can open your own fish canning facility and control product, processing and distribution. You will have to leave this costal village and run your business out of Mexico City". The fisherman asked how long it would take. " 15-20 years was the reply". "Then what?" said the fisherman. " You can sell out for millions" replied the American. "Then what?" said the fisherman. The American laughed and replied, " You can sleep in, You can fish a little, You can relax with your wife, You can play with your children, and play guitar and sip beer with your amigos every evening".

I wish I had read and understood this story when I was 25!
