Another new job in prison???
I know, I know. It seems like I can't hold down a job here! I have worked in the kitchen for the past six months and it was time for a change! The last two months I have been the lead "pm utility" guy. It actually wasn't a bad job. It mostly involved taking the garbage out after the lunch and dinner meal services and sweeping and mopping the floors in the back. But my back begged to differ. Some of those bags that I had to toss into the dumpster weighed 50 pounds and the bending over to sweep and mop started to take its toll. I may have the body of a 35 year old but sometimes it feels like I have the spine of a 75 year old!
I actually found out just before I arrived here that I have a degenerated disc at L5-S1 (in spite of only doing low impact exercise for the past 30 years!). I do a lot of core exercises and lower back stretching so have been mostly asymptomatic. But it was starting to get a little sore so I figured it was time for a change!
So as of August 1, I am in the outdoor rec department. My job is to keep all of the aerobic machines and the equipment room clean. Overall, it will be fewer hours which will be nice since I never seem to catch up on all the stuff I need (and want) to do around here! I told my bunkie a week ago that I just didn't have enough time to get everything done. He said "you want some of mine?" Haha! He said he has never heard anyone say that here. Keeping busy though makes the time go fast and I have no problems filling my days. In fact, my friend Michael and I took tennis lessons this past Friday and we rallied for an hour and fifteen today. I haven't picked up a racquet in 30 years but I wasn't bad. And it was fun! I just got off the phone with Ken and he said, "you're having so much fun, you won't want to come home." Uh, I DON'T THINK SO! But I get his point. But why not make the best of a bad situation, right?
I'm working on some serious personal improvement stuff too - more on that soon! Thanks as always for following. I appreciate it so much!!
