One of the benefits of seemingly unlimited time here is that I have enjoyed getting to read a lot, something that I had forgotten the enjoyment of. I have just completed my 50th book since my arrival.
I'm sincerely blessed with a great group of friends that have kept my reading options constantly filled. Prior to leaving i spent a few hours on amazon creating a wishlist of titles that i was interested in reading. The amazon wish list is an awesome feature that allows you to identify items that you are interested in, and when others purchase them for you, they are removed from the list.
In our fast paced society, I am reminded of how good it is to take a daily break and open a book for a little while. The simple act of stopping the noise around you, and immersing yourself into a book is very healthy on many levels.
Good to hear. Wondering how your experience of time passing feels in prison. In the “outside” world I find myself thinking…where did the time go. Not enough was accomplished in the time that passed or there is not enough time to prepare or get something done. On the other hand when one is experiencing a “bad” time or difficult time then time seems to pass slowly and we find ourselves wanting time to pass more quickly so that the bad event will go away. When the mind is occupied within the pages of a book time doesn’t seem as important. I guess the message is to focus on enjoying time the best we can no matter what we are doing. I would imagine that your concept of time is skewed. I can’t really imagine how it would feel. I probably would pray when I went to sleep at night That all my prison time had passed and I were to be released when I awoke. How do you handle time in prison?
