Getting Adjusted To Federal Prison
My world has been shrinking for quite some time now. When I was arrested in 2012, they confiscated my passport and restricted my leisure travel to the state of California. Still, California is a pretty big state and I was still able to travel to other parts of the US on business. And now I am just wrapping my head around the fact that my world is just a few acres in a decidely unglamorous corner of Kern County. And yet, as of now, I don't feel all that confined. For the most part, we have freedom of movement and we can go where we want to go between 6am and 9pm. In my mind, I choose to think that isn't terribly different from my four years at Fresno State (minus the alcohol and recreational drugs) where I pretty much stayed in an area of a few acres for four years. And the four year "degree" I'll get here just may very well be more valuable than the one I received at Fresno State.
Of course, I miss Kenny terribly as well as my friends and family and my colleagues at Glaukos - and I am sure I will miss everyone more as time goes on. But it's kind of nice to slow down, forget about email and texts and spend more time reading and writing as well as getting to meet new people and hear their stories. It's also nice to not rush through a workout and to walk a few miles around the track every day with my new friends. I'd give anything to come home tomorrow but this really ain't so bad. Cheers to all of you (sans the Tito's martini) and thanks for following my journey.
