Quoting Peewee Herman from his first TV special, "I'm the luckiest boy in the world!" No, I didn't get to fly today but it sure felt like I was walking on air! I was called to visitation at 8:15 this morning and when I walked through the door, the first thing I saw was a sea of familiar looking faces - my Mom and Les, Paul and Nicole and Kenny, Lisa and Gary - in the far corner of the room all wearing sky blue tshirts all yelling "Happy Birthday David!" As I got closer, I saw that each of the tshirts had "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID" silkscreened on the front! Wow! I was blown away! Thank you Danielle (my fabulous niece who is a student at Sac State) for printing the tshirts and making sure they got to everyone on time! You are the best!

It was an amazing day! We really appreciated the CO letting us use one of the private rooms. I think I had a smile on my face all day - from being surrounded by so much love! I am so glad my birthday fell on a Sunday this year. The hugs were extra special today and will keep me going for quite a while!

The whole week has actually been great. I got SO many birthday cards! In fact, it was a tiny bit embarrassing at mail call. Mail is not sorted by inmate, it just comes in a big stack for each dorm. One day last week I got 12 cards so I had to walk up to the CO's desk 12 times. I tried to supress the big smile on my face but I don't think I was successful! 😀

It is so special to get cards here and I want to thank the following people from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to find a special card and mail it. Each of you made my day and my week! Mom and Les, Gina, Kathleen, Lisa M, Bart, Marion, Bridgette, Maureen, Lisa S, Julie S, my cousins Stacey and Terrilyn, Paul and Nicole, Vicki, Susan P (nice to hear from you!), Howard and Sherri (our 5s and 0s vacation buddies!), Becky, Leslie, Hal and Marcie (looking forward to your visit!), Maria, Robert, Steve and Angela, Vanessa, Todd and Nick and Barry (what a nice surprise!). And of course my wonderful husband Kenny who sent me a card every day seven days in a row!

So my challenge to you today is to think of someone you love who means a lot to you and go out and buy a card and mail it to him or her! I guarantee that person will be thrilled and you will know you made someone's day!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! I love you all!

David

PS Happy birthday Suzie! So glad we got to celebrate our birthdays together early last weekend! And happy birthday Mark - I'm sure my card is in the mail! 🙂
