Job Assignment at Taft Federal Prison Camp
The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life" Jessica Hirsche.
I was recently assigned my job at Taft Camp. I work the breakfast and lunch shifts washing dishes. I'm lucky that my work day is over by 11am, allowing me to take classes, work out, and enjoy most of the day. I get to work with my friends, and we are always busy so the time flys by. Of the many jobs that I could have received, I feel lucky to have this one. Fortunately I am working with several guys that all have a great work ethic. To our CO, we are known as "the old guys in the dishroom that get things done."
I've been fortunate to have had jobs throughout my career doing work that I loved to do. It is essential that the 40 plus hours of your week be spent on something that you enjoy. You should be excited to go to work, not dreading it. My bunkmate and I were lamenting over our situation in as much as we are both ready to get back to work.
One program that is in place in the system is called a halfway house. Near the end of your sentence you are given the opportunity to spend time in a community based environment, where you are able to secure work, and then go to work each day, while otherwise continuing to follow the rules of your incarceration. This helps with the ability to get training, get a job and be fully employed at the time of your release. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of as much time as I am allowed to get back into the technology field and get back to work.
When I speak with young people that are just getting started on their career path, I always suggest that the figure out what they love doing, and the money will find a way. My cousin is a great example. He's always been an avid outdoor enthusiast, and loves mountain biking. He continually did what he loved and ended up with a career working for Rock Shox, a manufacturer of mountain bike parts, where in he got to combine his passion with a career.
So often people's career choices are driven by garnishing the biggest paycheck, only to make them live in a position whereby they dread monday morning and going to work. I really believe that in today's economy, there is always a way to find a career in doing what you love, and you will live a much more satisfying life.

I’m trying to find out if podcasts can be submitted to the jpay music store. What a scam 🙂
