Scott London
April 15, 2013
Since Scott London was indicted, I have had at least 15 people ask me if I am consulting him. Not yet I am not. Determined to help him I sent a copy of Lessons From Prison to his lawyer. I may never know if the lawyer will pass it along.
Stockton Re-entry Program
February 13, 2013
In addition to lecturing on the motivations of white-collar crime, I run a non-profit foundation. I enjoy the challenge of building a sustainable foundation that transforms the lives of those who enter the program. I named the Michael G. Santos Foundation after my close friend, Michael Santos, who was just released from prison after serving 25-years in prison. I lack the space or time to go into his remarkable journey. To learn more, I direct you to MichaelSantos.net, or his facebook page.

Lessons From Prison–Goldman Sachs
January 10, 2013
A chance encounter at Goldman Sachs during my junior year at USC changed my life. Until that time, I had planned to go to graduate school to continue studying Psychology. During my junior year, my mother mentioned I had an older cousin who worked at Goldman Sachs. She pleaded with him to let me come down and visit. Once I did I was hooked! After spending a whole day at Goldman, I knew graduate school was out the proverbial window. I just loved the aura on that trading floor, and I loved being around confident executives who so casually, it seemed to me, tossed around $100 million dollar trades. As I note below in the rest of chapter 1, The Beginning, I changed directions and after graduation began my career at Merrill Lynch. It was at that time, unfortunately, I began making decisions that were totally antithetical to my distinguished cousin.
Lessons From Prison–The Beginning
January 7th, 2013
I’m excited to begin posting my book, Lessons From Prison, on line. As I wrote last week, I was tempted to do this from Taft Camp, but ultimately decided against it. The opening of the book changed after having many conversations with my friend, Michael Santos. Originally, I had discussed getting into much greater detail about my youth, baseball career, and so forth. That approach, Michael suggested, would work well for my friends and family. “If that’s your market”, he said, “then you will succeed.”
Lessons From Prison
January 3, 2013
While I was working on my first book Lessons From Prison, I contemplated placing the book on line. Essentially, after I would write a page or two, I considered having my mom, who maintained my blog, place it on my site. Ultimately, of course, I decided against the idea. Now, though, I have decided to give it a go. For the next 100 days, I am going to post a page or two from Lessons From Prison. Somedays I will place some notes above the text to add some perspective. I plan to add the first pages on Monday, January 7th. I hope everyone enjoys!
The Private Bank of California Networking Event
January 1, 2013
A month ago, I attended a networking event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The event was sponsored by The Private Bank of California, and managed by Carl Terzian, a legend in the public relations business. This event is different from other cheesy networking events that are full of self-promotional business people sharing corny cliches about how their product or whatever they sell is the best in the world. This event differed because rather just focusing on our business, we were asked to share our “back of the card” story. I heard incredible people open up about the charities they give so much time to, or the efforts a mother and father have made to raise twin boys who have auticism. This group inspired me, and I consider it a privilege to be in the early stages of forming friendships with many of them. Carl has invited me to another event at the Hilton on January 25. I am excited to attend again!
Are you a psychopath?
December 12, 2012
Last week, I conducted a lengthy interview with Advisor One Magazine. I learned they are planning to do a story on me in their February issue. I am always interested to see the angle or direction editors take in my interviews. Some, take the redemptive, feel good story approach, while others, most really, take the approach that probably attracts more viewers: “Felon out of prison gets paid big bucks to share his story”, or “Ponzi Schemer shares sordid tale of crime and greed.”
My Speaking Schedule
October 4, 2012
I feel compelled to write a blog mostly because I am shocked that so many months have passed since my last. In prison, I wrote a blog every day. Without fail, I pulled out my bic pen that I had purchased in the commissary for 38 cents, and wrote something. Now, though, I am spending most of my days speaking, and running the Michael G. Santos Foundation.
Focusing on the End Game
July 12, 2012
This morning I spoke with an older gentleman who is in a spot that I once knew. Byron is going to surrender to a prison camp in the next few weeks. His sentence will keep him confined for 5 years, after good time and the drug program. Naturally, he is anxious and worried about what the future holds. Like I once was, he is worried about things that in the end will not matter much. I will explain.
