David Applegate

My name is David Applegate. I am 59 and am a native Californian currently residing in Palm Springs with my husband and partner of 34 years. I served 34 months at the federal prison camps at Taft, CA and Sheridan, OR and was released on November 28, 2017. I am now on supervised release. I had a very successful career in sales and marketing in several medical device categories. While running a business unit at a growing mid-sized public company, I – along with several others – succumbed to the pressure of meeting Wall Street expectations and engaged in channel stuffing. It seemed to be manageable and fairly innocuous in the beginning but it was a slippery slope that resulted in a large restatement of revenue and earnings. I acknowledge my role in the conspiracy and I take full responsibility for my actions and the harm they caused others. Although difficult, going to prison was the best possible thing that could have happened to me. I have changed my priorities, identified my irrational thinking errors and developed tools to recognize them when they occur. I hope what I have learned – and will learn – will be helpful to others.

The last blog post

Re-Entry Issues? Not Yet!

"Reentry" really could not be going any better!  I am enjoying every aspect of daily life and am so incredibly grateful to be free and to be able to enjoy all the little things I missed while I was away.  I know it’s a bit of a cliché but I kind of feel like Dorothy...

There’s No Place Like Home!

I'm home! I'm home! I'm home!!! I know many of those who receive my blog posts know that I was released on November 28 but I think it bears repeating, don't you? The last several days have been a whirlwind. You may recall that my sentence was due to end on May 21,...

Next Phase Of The Journey

Next phase of the journey August 15, 2017 I think I'm done. I hope I am; with testifying, with ArthroCare, with reliving the past. I also thought I was done last time, in 2014. But I wasn't. So instead of relieved, I am mostly ambivalent. I wasn't scheduled to testify...

Accepting What Is From Federal Prison

Accepting what is. August 1, 2017 Probably the most significant development since I last wrote is that, after 10 days I finally gave up trying to move cells and just accepted that my entire stay here will be in the “psycho ward”. A few days ago, I was walking back...

I’m Certified!

A “Holy” Visit

A "Holy" Visit August 11, 2016 In a previous post, I wrote about "Ken's World"; that quirky, eclectic place where anything can happen. My husband Ken, of course, is the King of Ken's World and I got to experience the latest episode on a recent visit by him! He came to...
